Brushing While Wearing Braces

Brushing and flossing are extra important when you have braces. The braces allow for extra places for food to get stuck and plaque to build up. If not kept clean while you wear your braces, you could end up with permanent stains on your teeth or cavities.

It is best to brush morning and night as well as after you eat. Flossing should be done at least once per day. When you get your braces, one of our staff members will show you how to brush as well as give you aids to keep your teeth clean.

Make sure you keep up with your regular cleanings at the dentist.

Removable Appliances

Take your appliance out and brush it whenever you brush your teeth. Use cool water, never hot when brushing.

Foods to Avoid

You should avoid any sticky or hard foods such as gum, caramels, starbursts, nuts, bagels, carrots. Try to cut food up into smaller pieces and not bite into it (corn on the cob, bagels, pizza, etc.). Limit consumption of high sugar content food and drink.
